Delay in following links in vimwiki #459

Dear Team,
Thank you for this terrific piece of software. I've been using vimwiki for years, and having a task function like this is exactly what I need.
But I've run into a slight issue. Following links, and general vimwiki use seems sluggish now.
For example following a link in vimwiki, I find it takes around 0.66-0.75s to open. This is a vimwiki page that is 773 lines long.
It seems proportional to the size of the link. A vimwiki entry with 4031, takes exactly 2 seconds. Another one 975 lines takes about 0.9s.
Do you know how I can troubleshoot this, or is this expected behaviour? My laptop uses a pretty fast Ryzen on Ubuntu and using Neovim. My .vimrc is still in vimscript because I am behind the times, and I use VimPlug to install stuff.
