Shadow root breaking my styles - anyone used style-loader successfully?

I've used react-shade to create a shadow dom, which successfully protects my app from the outside parent's CSS.

But this has had the side-effect of breaking all my CSS.

I think this is because the CSS stringified by style-loader (webpack) is going into the parent, rather than the shadow dom.

Has anybody had any luck getting styles into the shadow dom?
