What's the goal of the project here, specifically? To support multiple backends or to get rid of running as root? If the second case, might as well phrase it a bit broader and have that as first requirement. Then the suggested solution could be to investigate whether Docker supports this or, otherwise, if Podman, Singularity or Linux Containers offer a better solution (to name a few). |

Fair enough, I was conflating them. I think getting rid of running as root would be nicer if done first I think, as otherwise you will have to go through that transition with multiple backends |
