Inspiration

Scams have evolved with AI, and it’s heartbreaking how often older adults are the ones most impacted. Many get targeted by convincing deepfake voice calls from someone pretending to be a loved one. We wanted to create something simple, accessible, and proactive that could help stop these scams before they cause harm.

What it does

Trustline is a scam call protection app built for older adults. It listens for signs of deepfake voice scams in real time and sends an SMS alert during the call, giving the user a clear warning so they can take action immediately.

How we built it

We focused on making the experience as straightforward as possible:

  • A simple signup with name and phone number
  • An easy on/off toggle for protection
  • Clear on-screen indicators

Behind the scenes, our detection engine monitors call audio for suspicious patterns and triggers alerts instantly.

Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing speed and accuracy in scam detection
  • Designing a UI that’s genuinely comfortable for older adults
  • Building trust while handling sensitive information

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created a working prototype that can detect and warn about suspicious calls
  • Designed an interface tested for clarity and ease of use

What we learned

  • Empathy-driven design is key for adoption
  • Real-time protection needs to be invisible until it’s needed

What's next for Trustline

  • Add more accessibility features
  • Start beta testing with older adults
  • Expand support tools like a built-in help chatbot
