This PR updates effectively all dependencies and gradle plugins to their latest versions with the goal of supporting a Kotlin 2.0 release. The library itself has not fundamentally changed with any of the version bumps or follow-up code changes to replace deprecated usages or reformat code with new rules in ktlint.
