What is Computer Network?

Communication `between two or more network interfaces.

Components of Computer Network

  1. Two or more computer devices.
  2. Cables as links between the computers.
  3. A netwrok interfacing card(Nic) on each.
  4. Computer
  5. Switches
  6. Routers
  7. Software called Operating system.

OSI Model (Open System Interconnection)

It is 7 level Architecture,they are

  • Physical
  • Data Link
  • Network
  • Transport
  • Session
  • Presentation
  • Application

ISO developed this Model to communicate or follow standard for the world wide data communication. The Network devices should follow this standard while developing.

The basic elements of a layered Model are

  • Services (Service is a set of actions that a layer offers to another layer)
  • Protocols - set of rules for send/receive data.
  • and interfaces is communication between layers.
