The problem with NotoSansJP is that it has not only diferent metrics, but also different positioning. #379 fixes some use-cases. The plan to move forward with full CJK (and maybe color emoji) support is to either wait for the move to SDL3-TTF, which allows using fallback fonts, or implement a fallback font system ourselves at some point. On Ubuntu, SDL3 and SDL3-TTF is only in 25.04 and newer, which means we'd have to build it ourselves. I am not convinced that using a custom SDL build on Linux is the right move. |
