If someone is passionate about it, they're happy to take over. I have close to 0 Lua experience and was poking around. Someone who knew more about Lua that this was a bad implementation, so I didn't attempt to continue. :)

A little googling on StackOverflow has pointed me to https://github.com/brunoos/luasec/wiki. So luasec might be the way to go ?

Yeah, this sounds familiar. Pretty sure this was the thing that we should use.
