Grading

In order to earn an A in Startup Ideas, you must:

• Add at least 100 startup ideas to Uni
• Receive at least 40 thanks for comments made in Uni on the startup ideas of other students
• Complete all 6 critical thinking quizzes

Your exact grade is calculated as follows:

• Your Uni contributions determine your base grade according to this chart, i.e., to earn a given base grade, you need at least X ideas AND at least Y thanks:

• Your base grade is adjusted by completion of critical thinking quizzes:

  • There are 6 in-class critical thinking quizzes (no quiz in the first class)
  • If you complete all 6 in-class quizzes, your final grade is the same as above (based on Uni contributions)
  • If you do NOT complete all 6 in-class exercises, your final grade is one-half letter grade less than your grade above (A drops to B+, B drops to C+, etc.)
  • If you miss an in-class quiz for any reason, you can make up the quiz by completing an optional make-up assignment
  • You do not need to share why you missed class with the instructor or ask for an excused absence, just ask for and complete a make-up assignment to receive full credit for the quiz
  • Make-up assignments are due before the next class, just like homework
  • Note that the make-up assignments are more work than the in-class quizzes to make up for the class time you missed

The instructor will email you a mid-semester account of your grade so that there is no doubt about how you are doing in the course up to that point.

You will receive an update from the instructor with the final date by which all ideas and thanks must be in Uni for grading purposes.
