As international tensions flare and humanity's future looks ever bleaker, it's important now more than ever to ensure that people are civically engaged within their communities, regions, and nations. Project Turnout is designed to expand civic access among younger, less experienced voters, with a focus on the United States. It's implementation intends to address three key points of friction in modern elections: registration, preparation, and destination. First, with respect to voter registration, in the status quo, nearly a quarter (23%) of young voters were not registered because they were unable to register in time or did not know how in the first place. Though current registration systems exist, they aren't designed to engage young voters, oftentimes resulting in confusion or frustration. They also aren't optimized for mobile devices, further adding frustration. Second, on the topic of preparation, young voters often need guidance on what paperwork to bring and when to bring it. In fact, African-American voters are disproportionately less likely to vote simply because they're unable to access bureaucratic information for elections. Finally, destination, as ensuring that voters are able to access registration and polls efficiently is just as important as ensuring they can vote. Time and location constraints are some of the leading factors that decrease civic engagement; a program such as 'Turnout' would ensure that voters can succinctly complete registration and quickly find nearby polling locations.
