Here are all the categories with a small description of every one of them.
Please keep in mind that many types of 2FA can fit into multiple categories.
Hardware based authentication. Often something like a security token.
Software based authentication. Often something like Google Authenticator or Authy.
SMS Text Message based authentication.
Phone call based authentication. (This is not for apps purely on a phone, like Google Authenticator. Those should be under Software.)
