@graemeblair, I made mostly small writing edits and some reorganization/more rewrites to the sections on balance and attrition to Alyssa's draft. It's ready for your review.

Just a note that the formatting (headings, abstract) is inconsistent between this and other guides; it uses the ## level in addition to the # one.
