support http.request syntax in new versions of node without breaking older node versions. replaced gzip with node's zlib #8

I saw this pull request: #6 but I think this one may be more desirable because it doesn't break existing versions of node. It uses feature detection to see if the new function is available, otherwise falls back to the existing method.
