The development of DCS-Map has two reasons. Reason number one is that I am on my way to learn some web development.
And how could you do this better than with a nice and real project? With DCS-Map I beginn with the basics of HTML, CSS and PHP and go further into JavaScript/Ajax over the time.
Reason number two is that I just would like a browser "all in one" Data collection for my own flights. So why not just host it for others at well? Thats why I started DCS-Map as a public service. So for the record: This is not going to be only an interactive online map - it will be a data collection for (hopefully) every information one could need while playing DCS World.
Maybe thats because ... I am just learning this stuff :-). If you have tipps or feedback for me - please contribute them in the issues or on the Forum at Digital Combat Simulator.
DCS is a flight simulation by Eagle Dynamics.
It simulates a combat enviroment very well and gives the players a feature rich mission editor for own scenarios which they then can share on the DCS File Service.
A web hosted solution works for everyone with an internet connection. With an application for iOS, Android, Windows or Linux you would have many ports. I like it this way :)
Since this is mostly a learning project for myself, I will open this for everyone - Open Source. Feel free to edit something contribute to the community. Everyone can see what is happening on the background and if I stop hosting this on DCS-Map.com, someone else can carry on.
If you contribute with your own code - please add explaining comments to it.
- Virtual Kneeboard
- User Accounts
- Checklists and Custom Checklists (user Accounts). Maybe even people could contribute and make their own Checklists and share them with other players on DCS-Map.com - these will have the option to vote for them (same with the guides in Dota 2 (game))
- Big Red Button which will show emergency procedures on click
- Data for all airports
- Airport Charts
- Frequencies
- Online Map like google Maps (but with DCS Maps from ingame)
- Option to set Waypoints and draw on it
- Maybe a Client which loads the DCS Log Files to the user Account and shows its virtual position on the map? Maybe even to selected other DCS-Map Users?
