Hacktoberfest is an awesome opportunity to contribute to open source and receive some swag in return for your hardwork!
Hacktoberfest lasts all of October and is sponsored by GitHub and Digital Ocean.
Open source enthusiasts from all over the world will take part in Hacktoberfest. Whether you're a developer, student learning to code, hobbyist, or event host, you can make positive contributions to the ever-gowing open source community.
People of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to complete this challenge.
In return, you can choose to receive a limited edition t-shirt or have a tree planted in your name.
A few important details:
- You must complete four valid pull requests
- Your Hacktoberfest PRs can be submitted anytime between October 1 and October 31.
- In order to count, the PRs must be made to GitHub repositories that have the "hacktoberfest" topic label, or the PR must be labeled "hacktoberfest-accepted." Check out the official FAQs for more info.
- Start with open source projects you use everyday
- Explore projects based on your interests
- Improve documentation... there are endless opportunities to make documentation more user friendly, complete, and inclusive
- Encourage projects to participate in Hacktoberfest
- Host an event
- Most importantly... learning something new and have fun!
