It's important to either merge this PR or pin requirements to pypdf2<3.0 because fresh installs of stapler are currently broken.

I hope this project is not dead, or should stapler be forked to have a more active branch?

Perhaps someone can fork this project and maintain it. A simple merge request has not been responded to for almost 2.25 years.

I converted it to uv, but I wouldn't be able to maintain it properly myself.
