Player How To
To join a TF2 Pick Up Game (PUG), you will need to have be authorized by a PUG admin. You should have a decent level of experience with the 6v6 format, either through leagues like ESEA and CEVO, or through TF2 Lobby. If you feel you have enough experience, ask in the IRC channel for someone to authorize you.
Once you have been authorized, you may add up to PUGs. Before you add to your first PUG you should connect to the Mumble server and ensure that your Mumble client is working properly (i.e. you can hear others and they can hear you). If you wait until your first PUG to install and configure your Mumble client you will likely be kicked from the PUG and lose your authorization to play in future PUGs.
Every PUG has two captains, who will select players and their classes for each team. Up to 16 players can be added to a single PUG, but only 12 players will be picked. Accordingly, just because you have been authorized does not guarantee you the chance to play in a PUG. In order to facilitate games, a medic ratio of 5% is enforced. This means that for every 20 PUGs in which you are picked, you must play at least one as medic.
When you add to a PUG you will also select which classes you wish to play. You may select one of the following classes: Demo, Medic, Scout, Soldier. You should only select the classes that you are proficient at, if you are picked for a class and then perform poorly your authorization will likely be revoked, which will make you ineligible for adding to future PUGs. The add command consists of the string "!add" followed by a space-delimited list of the classes you wish to play. The order that you list the classes in does not matter. For example, to add as a medic you would use the following command:
!add medic
To add as a Demoman and a Scout you would use the following command:
!add demo scout
To add as a Demoman, Scout, and Medic, you would use the following command:
!add demo scout medic
