This begins a process of attempting to document Mongoid's internals, with a goal of it eventually being a kind of specification for Mongoid. With this, we'll be better able to:

  1. Teach newcomers to Mongoid how the system works.
  2. Understand the difference between an observed behavior and what is expected.
  3. Draw a clearer line between "bug fix" and "new feature."
