TODO:

  • Update the package list with all the current Zuul CI users
  • Prepare announcement email, see scripts/migrate-zuul-users.py
  • Do the announcement and gather feedback (devel-lists, discussion)
  • Merge and profit?
  • Disable Zuul CI for dist-git PRs
  • Adjust the script to instead add new contributors similar to zuul-config-generator

Blocked by packit/packit-service#2856

I noticed that there are a bunch of packages that are retired and/or orphaned. But I don't think I have a simple way to check the status without going through all branches to make sure that it is retired on all of them. On the other hand it should be harmless to include them here, apart from being a huge list here. Reckon we should just live with that?

@nforro @lbarcziova any more concerns with the announcement?

@LecrisUT we decided we are going to request more resources for our cluster to be prepared in case we need to scale things up. Do we have any (soft/hard) deadlines here? We are also trying to address our burnt error budgets, so I am trying to think about the best timeline here. I also wanted to discuss with @lachmanfrantisek who was out previous days.

Do we have any (soft/hard) deadlines here?

Just a preference for the end of the year. Or any soft deadline that we can set together, so I know how to address the issues popping up in Zuul

Outcome from our sync regarding this: we will do the deployment of these changes on 12th January (together with disabling Zuul). Before that, we will do 2 posts:

  1. this week, announcing the plan and date
  2. when we get back from Christmas break (~5th January), just reminding the migration
