System Requirements

OS: Windows 10 20H2 or newer; or Windows 11 22H2 or newer
Storage: ~550MB (Full Install) / ~120MB (Minimal Install)

Minimum Hardware
CPU: Intel Core i3-5005U @ 2.00 GHz 2core/4thread (*) RAM: 4GB

Recommended Hardware
CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U @ 1.60 GHz 4core/8thread
RAM: 8GB (**)

Note

*) Intel Core i3-5005U sounds like a pretty high power processor but an Intel Celeron N4100 is actually faster than that processor - according to PassMark scores. So, please check your hardware accordingly and do not feel like a Celeron is weak if you have a celeron.
**) Although 8GB is recommended, 4GB should run well enough if the grammar checking feature is not intensively used.

JARS Dependencies List:

  • Microsoft Edge (for Database Viewer) - This should generally be pre-installed by default on both Windows 10 and 11.
  • Java Runtime Edition (JRE) (for Report Generator Autocorrect)
  • Microsoft Office (for automatic PDF Report Generation)

Install

There are two installation types that JARS offers:

  1. Full installation - this installation includes the core JARS software, built-in resources, Java Runtime Edition and Language Tool package. Both dependencies are required to use the autocorrect feature.
  2. Minimal installation - this installation only includes the core JARS software, and the built-in resources.

Either way, the installation is similar:

  1. Download the JARS installer from the releases page in the GitHub repository here. Avoid beta releases unless there is a feature that you need inside the beta release. Download the latest release for the best experience since newer release always contain bug fixes and feature improvements. You can either choose to install minimally or have the full experience.
  2. Run the installer software and follow through the wizard.
  3. (If using full installer read this. Else, jump to step 4.)
Through the installer steps, you will be asked to install Java if you have not already installed Java previously. You must install Java if you plan to use the autocorrect feature when generating the report documents. If you are not sure, you can install Java at a later time when you are planning to use the autocorrect feature. However, it is recommended to install Java to avoid future issues.
  4. It is recommended to not directly run the JARS software from the installer once installation is done. Instead, close the installer, then search for the program in the Windows start menu. This is because the installer needs to inject variables into the OS environment and it takes some time to get the environment updated.

Uninstall

To uninstall JARS from your computer, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Windows Explorer or other explorers that you may prefer. Then, navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/JARS.
  2. Run the unins000.exe file.
  3. Follow through the wizard and JARS should be removed from your computer.
