Technology Radar

The VI Company Backend Technology Radar.

You can find the latest version from the main branch here.

What's a Technology Radar?

Each insight we share is represented by a blip. Blips may be new to the latest Radar volume, or they can move rings as our recommendation has changed.

We use the following descriptions for the rings:

  • Adopt: Proven and mature technologies that are widely used and well understood. Recommended for new applications since we know how to use them responsibly, and there’s enough expertise available to help others when needed.
  • Trial: Technologies that are ready for use but not yet fully proven. They are introduced in projects and may even run in production. Since many developers are still unfamiliar with them, there’s a learning curve. An alternative should always be available as a fallback option.
  • Assess: Promising technologies worth investigating. You’ve read about something new and are excited—great! Build a demo, research the technology, and describe why it could be a good fit for your organization.
  • Hold: Technologies with clear drawbacks, limited applicability or those that are lesser version of an already adopted technology. Use them only with a well-thought-out and widely shared justification. Before adopting, discuss your reasoning in a Slack channel or a technical meeting to ensure alignment.
