Creating filters

  1. Be careful while targeting system apps. These notifications may contain critical information.
  2. Include keywords in the filter, but avoid making them too specific. For example,
    1. Instead of "Your order #12345 has been shipped", use "shipped".
    2. Instead of "Meeting", use "Meeting with Neil".
  3. While choosing the target for your regex pattern, prefer the most specific one. The default accepts a match anywhere in the notification title or content, but "title only" or "content only" are safer options.

Curating history

  1. Consider disabling history for filters matching notifications whose content you already know, like "Tubular is displaying over other apps". This will prevent clutter in the history.
  2. Consider disabling history for filters matching on-going notifications sent too frequently and repeatedly, like "Charging". This will prevent duplicate entries in the history.
  3. For the first few days after creating a new filter, keep an eye on the history to ensure that the filter is not too generic.

Miscellaneous

  1. If notifications aren't being filtered instantly/still creating an initial disturbance, try disabling battery optimizations for NotiFilter. This can be done from the Settings screen.
